LyondellBasell Clinton Complex achieves milestone
Workers at the LyondellBasell Clinton Complex recently achieved a safety milestone of 2 million safe working hours without a recordable injury.
“Safety is the absolute highest value at our facility,” said Christopher Cain, LyondellBasell Clinton Complex site manager. “We describe our focus on that value with the term Goal Zero, which targets zero injuries, zero incidents and zero mistakes.”
A recordable injury is an occupational injury or illness that requires medical treatment more than simple first aid and must be reported to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
“Goal Zero is more than a saying, it’s the way we approach our jobs every day and we are committed to maintaining a Goal Zero environment for everyone who comes through our doors,” Cain said. “We are so proud of the excellent work that all of our employees have done to make Goal Zero a reality.”
Earlier this year, the plant was awarded the Distinguished Safety Gold Award by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers for its superior safety performance. It also has earned the highest safety designation from OSHA as a “STAR” site in the agency’s Voluntary Protection Programs.
The LyondellBasell Clinton Complex employs approximately 400 workers and is one of the largest chemical plants in Iowa. The plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene plastic resins. These resins serve as building blocks for products such as leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects food and children’s toys that are safe and durable.
