Essential Duties:

·       Have a thorough understanding of the AAR Field Manual of Interchange Rules and AAR Office Manual of Interchange Rules.

·       Obtain, read, and understand scopes of work (SOW’s), procedures, and blueprint drawings from customers.

·       Create car files containing the supporting documentation to make the required repairs to each railcar.

·       Visually inspect railcars upon arrival for FRA, AAR, DOT defects/repairs and items specified in customer provided scopes of work.

·       Research and understand how to identify correct parts from drawings to ensure the correct materials and services are identified to achieve accurate repairs that comply with FRA, AAR, DOT, and customers’ requirements.

·       Preparation and submission of accurate railcar repair estimates to the appropriate persons/groups in an efficient and timely manner.

·       Maintain accurate and reliable status reports for multiple customers

·       Build working relationships with and accompany field inspectors during their onsite inspections

·       Proficient use of measuring tools such as tape measures, rulers, calipers, AAR rule 1 gauges

·       Proficient computer skills including use of the following software and programs: Microsoft 365 (Office), RailcarRX or other comparable railcar billing software, and various web-based customer portals used to manage estimate approvals and hosting related documents such as scopes of works, drawings, procedures, and forms.

·       Knowledge in welding specifications according to AWS D:15 (Railroad Welding Specification for Cars and Locomotives) and AAR MSRP C-III (Specifications for Tank Cars)

·       Knowledge in industrial coating application

·       Abide by current laws, regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.

Working Conditions:

·       Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights up to 16’.

·       Ability to enter and work in confined spaces through manways openings of approximately 20”.

·       Position often requires pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, stretching, working on your knees, ability to crawl under railcars, climbing on and off railcars, walking on uneven terrain, and lift and carry items 50 lbs. or less.

·       Ability to work in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.  Monitor upcoming weather conditions and plan work accordingly.

·       Ability to work overtime to meet customers’ needs.

Experience and education:

·       Highschool diploma or equivalent

·       Minimum 1 yr of railcar inbound inspection/estimate preparation (3 yrs preferred)

·       Minimum 3 yrs of verifiable railcar repair or manufacturing

·       Driver’s license required

·       Heavy repair – wreck repair inspection and estimating experience a plus
