People-

Congratulations to Ann Hutchinson, the new director of the Small Business Development Center.

Jon Ryan, our former local director of the Small Business Development Center, is now in Ames as state director.

Jeff Kooistra, Clinton city administrator, was recently elected as president of the Iowa City / County Management Association.

Thanks to Gary Williams and Ron Rider at Alliant Energy for their, and all of our partners’, financial and marketing support as we get up and running with both our new West End Rail heavy industrial park and Lyons Business and Technology Park.

Planning-

Please mark December 16 on your calendar for the CADC 50th Annual Meeting to be held at the Clinton Country Club, beginning with a buffet luncheon. This year’s speaker will be Michael Blouin, Director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development. Invitations will be mailed in November.

Final bid review and contracts are about to be let for Phase I of our new Lyons Business and Technology Park on the north end of Mill Creek Parkway. 70 % to 80% of all new jobs are being created in the service industry. We aim to get our share for the Clinton area.

Priorities-

CADC began working early in the year with PricewaterhouseCoopers – ADM’s consultant – and Clinton city administrator Jeff Kooistra towards a review of resources and programs that would attract a major new investment in facilities and equipment for Clinton operations and Iowa. Safety and efficiency in terms of the environment, workforce and production were top priorities.

Progress-

Working with the city council, our utility partners and the state, Archer Daniels Midland was recently approved for tax benefits through the Iowa New Jobs & Income Program for a $107 million investment to upgrade process technology locally. This includes a $63 million investment and 14 new, good paying jobs at the Clinton plant.

Congratulations to Nestlé PURINA for their new distribution facility in Manufacturing Meadows III. The facility, constructed and operated by Clausen Companies, is a 100,000 square foot facility and follows a 120,000 square foot facility built on to the existing Nestlé PURINA facility last year. In addition and thanks to our partners at Clinton’s city hall, Windsor Drive in MMIII was extended to the Nestlé PURINA campus to handle the many daily trucking operations to the plant.

Thanks to our Ag Advisory Group and presenters from USDA, consulting firms and the extension service for several meetings this past year. Local entrepreneurs, Mark Cross and Keith Holesinger, are very busy as we assist them towards major new value added ag processing and energy projects.
