Planning-

The 2004 Mayors Economic Development Summit to Washington, DC will take place May 9 through 12. If you are interested in participating in this year’s summit, please contact the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce or Clinton Area Development Corporation.

Priorities-

The Eastern Iowa Community College District has released its new employment survey, “Skills 2006,” which shows a need for 6000 new and replacement workers in eastern Iowa through 2006. The information is on the EICCD website at www.eicc.edu/skills206 or from 563-336-3308.

Progress-

Lyons Business & Technology Park – Clinton’s city council has approved the first contracts to construct infrastructure and improve the first four rough sites. We’re in business! 70-80% of new industrial jobs are being created in the service sector. Front and back office operations; data and information technology; client, credit and financial operations all will be sought to build in and occupy this first 25 of 100 acres business park … a cooperative effort of local government, the chamber and the development company

According to a recently completed private accomplishment survey, infrastructure projects on Clinton’s west side, such as the rebuilding of US Highway 30/67, the Mill Creek Parkway and extension of Windsor Drive in to Nestlè PURINA from the north, thus relieving Manufacturing Drive of over 100 trucking operations per day, have helped create over 1100 new, quality jobs in west end industries! Some companies experienced a 38% growth in payroll and others, like Rock-Tenn, added over 220 new jobs. DM Services, Moulded Fibre Technology, Data Dimensions, Nestlé PURINA PetCare and others all have grown, adding production capabilities.
