The 4 P’s People, Planning, Priorities, Progress

 

 People-

¨     Mayor LaMetta Wynn and CADC President Hugh G. LaMont represented the CADC board as part of a 30-member delegation from the Clinton area that attended the Mayors Economic Development Summit in Washington, DC in May.

¨     Senator Charles Grassley was in Clinton recently for a bus tour and update on various projects including Camanche Avenue Phase II (from South 14th Street to South 4th Street), the marina, four-laning Highway 30 across Iowa and necessity of a new railroad bridge.

¨     The city of Clinton hosted a visit by new Iowa Department of Transportation commissioner for eastern Iowa, Thom Hart, who was educated on highway needs and activities for this area.

 

Planning- 

¨     Discussions have begun among the city, CADC and local Chamber regarding the potential development of a business / technical park in northern Clinton.

¨     President LaMont is part of an Eastern Iowa Alliance gathered by Alliant Energy that will travel to Canada for marketing purposes.

 

Priorities-

¨     Industrial land acquisition remains a top priority. 

¨     The membership committee is actively recruiting potential new investors for the CADC.

¨     The CADC board recently showed its support for HF 577 Utility Plant-Siting Bill that will reduce the two-year siting process for building power stations in Iowa.  The board agreed to send letters of support for fast-track siting to local legislators and the governor.

 

Progress-

¨     CADC received awards from the Professional Developers of Iowa and Mid-American Economic Development Council for the multi-media marketing campaign mailer that was developed highlighting the laborshed study.

¨     The cities of Camanche and Clinton each received recertification in the Community Economic Preparedness Program sponsored by the Iowa Department of Economic Development.  Tom Hesselmann, Pam Petersen, Ilene Deckert and Mark Schroeder represented the communities and CADC at the recent SMART Conference in Des Moines to receive the certificates.

¨     A reminder -- the Clinton area in Iowa has a new area code; 563 replaces the former 319 area code (mandatory dialing deadline is December 2).

¨     Recent industrial visits include Gateway Marble, JT Cullen, Clausen Companies and Clinton Furniture Manufacturing.  The visits are scheduled to keep in contact with the area’s industrial base and identify any areas of concern.

¨     Final details are being made by Hampshire Pet Products regarding the development of a new manufacturing plant in Camanche.
