Cultural & Recreational Facilities
Theater and music fill the calendar throughout the year. Performances by a stock theater company are held in a classic sternwheeler steamboat re-christened the "City of Clinton Showboat." It features the "Lillian Russell Theater" named for the Clinton native who was a famous star of the "Gay Nineties" stage. In addition, the area’s amateur group, the River City Players, regularly stages productions.
Other cultural opportunities include the Gateway Ballet, Clinton Symphony Orchestra, Clinton Concert Association, Clinton County Historical Museum, and the River Arts Center which maintains an admission-free gallery, providing exhibition space for local artists. Of special interest to nature lovers are the Bickelhaupt Arboretum and Eagle Point Nature Society activities in Clinton, Iowa, and tours of Heritage Canyon in Fulton, Illinois.
The area communities conduct lively yearly festivals including B-rrry Fest, Fulton’s Dutch Days, Lyons Craft Fair, Art in the Park, Living History Days, Clinton’s Riverboat Days – Iowa’s Largest Fourth of July Celebration, Felix Adler Days, Camanche Days, Christmas Walk and Symphony of Lights.
With the Mississippi River as its front yard, the area offers a riverboat casino, recreational boating, water sports and year-round fishing. For those who want to just sit and watch the river in all its magnificence, there is Riverview Park, adjacent to the flood proof dike and just one block from downtown in Clinton, and the 205-acre Eagle Point Park, on Clinton’s north end. Other recreational opportunities include an Olympic style swimming and diving pool, YMCA, YWCA, Ericksen Center, Clinton LumberKings professional minor league baseball, and hiking and bike paths along the Mississippi River in both Iowa and Illinois.
